What is similicious: everything you should know about the Canadian Sim Card company

0

Traveling is such a blessing and a wonderful way to build memories that last. And in this day and age, we can’t go anywhere without our smartphones. But time and again we have heard horror stories about thousands of dollars in telephone bills because of international roaming charges and international texts and calls. A ballsy startup company in Canada wants to make a difference and put some sense of sanity in telecommunications.

Similicious is a company started by Adam Bacsalmasi. In 2013, he worked as a web designer but wanted to earn extra money. He invested CAD 200 to put up his website and bought SIM cards. Travelers ordered the SIM cards he distributed and he delivered them personally to their hotels. His objective was simple: help travelers to be able to use their unlocked mobile phones in Canada with a local SIM. This, in turn, would help them save tons of money from international charges. Little did he know that it was a market waiting to be discovered. He made CAD 43,000 that summer and practically doubles his earnings year after year.

As his business grew, so did his popularity. It caught the attention of the biggest carriers in Canada. Bacsalmasi was able to strike a deal with Rogers Communications, Inc. and has been working with them since then, selling Chatr prepaid cards.

Similicious offers unlimited prepaid plans starting at CAD 35. Depending on the plan you get, you can get up to 2 GB of mobile data and free local or international calls or texts. Top-ups are also available if you want more mobile data or more texts or more calls. Their plans also offer a selection based on location, for selected Canadian provinces, all of Canada, or inclusive of US calls. You can also just place long distance calls starting at CAD 10 cents per minute.

Bacsalmasi has been offered by many investors and angel companies to buy shares of his company. However, he has kept it private, keeps his operations lean and simple. He has been offering very affordable rates for travelers and is looking to expand his operations and distribution centers in Canada
